Video Preview — Join Us For Today’s Debate: Should Parents or the Public Be Holding Schools Accountable?

May 3, 2021

Education has been thrown for a loop in the past 14 months, but holding schools accountable for student success — and failure — remains a huge challenge, perhaps even more so given the disruption and setbacks of the pandemic. But who is best positioned to make those accountability decisions? Should we leave it up to parents — and give them a choice of schools and let them desert the lousy ones? Or should government take the lead in holding schools that receive public funds accountable?

This Wednesday, May 5, The 74 is teaming up with the Progressive Policy Institute and Bellwether Education Partners to debate the accountability question. Please join us at 1 p.m. ET to hear our experts: Derrell Bradford of 50CAN, Kathleen Mangu-Ward of the Reason Foundation, Maggie Garrett of Americans United for Separation of Church and State and David Osborne from PPI. Andy Rotherham of Bellwether Partners will moderate the debate. Click here to register, and submit your questions
