Watch: How a Brooklyn School Reopens — With No COVID Cases — in the Pandemic

When New York City public schools went largely remote this fall, parents of preschoolers and kindergarteners scrambled to improvise education that would support the social and emotional needs of their young children.

In Katherine Rowland’s case, she pulled her two children out of the local public school.

Her kindergartner, especially, wasn’t engaged in virtual learning. “Like so many schools, they weren’t really equipped to do that,” she said.

She soon learned about an independent school in the Bed-Stuy neighborhood of Brooklyn that was doing things differently. The Co-op School, serving students from preschool to 8th grade, was not only offering on-site classes, but was also operating with a stringent and comprehensive plan for ensuring students’ health and safety. All without taking a hit to student learning.

Rowland says her children are thriving there. She calls the Co-op school, “a gift.”

Watch how this small Brooklyn school reopened this fall with no COVID-19 cases reported to date.
