Hours after news broke that at least 14 are dead following a shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, poet Amanda Gorman tweeted a widely circulated new verse about the chaos, carnage and fear of the event:

Schools scared to death.

The truth is, one education under desks,

Stooped low from bullets;

That plunge when we ask
