Roadmap to Reopening: Handwashing

Handwashing is another consistently recommended preventative measure. Most states advise districts to provide information on proper handwashing. Many, including North Carolina, specify certain times when students should wash their hands, such as before and after meals. Some even suggest building handwashing into classroom activities. They also advise using hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol and that ensuring teachers observe young students when they use it. Other states, like Louisiana, suggest having students wash their hands at least every two hours.
